It’s always nice to hit the road. Most people hate to drive. Specially long stretches. From what I hear some have even more hatred towards the void zone of the I-5. Not me. I love it. I have done it so many times there is a comfort and familiarity to it that relaxes me every time. The rambling fever I have some what learned to suppress is sparked and the world some how seems a bit brighter in that moment.
I picked up Jai Tanju early one morning towards the end of February. Our final destination was Palm Springs to meet up with the Richer Poorer crew, but first we were going for an extended detour through LA and Orange county. Our choice of listening to start our trip was some Bukowski.
Fist stop Luceros crib also home of Black Label Skateboards. This will be our home base for a ferw days! Always great to hang with John! Long live the Label!
Talking serious shop with The King and The Curb King (Lucero) Talking shapes for my new boards I have always loved the board shaping process. I think its a lost art and Lucero is the master!
Black Label HQ (the garage) The timing was perfect! We were in town just days after Patrick Naggy and Lucero decided to start a documentary about the making of the Label Kills video. So I had a few cold ones and rambled for the camera.
We Hooked up with the Cycle Zombies crew for a beach front curb session. These dudes rule so hard!! I was stoked to meet them and hang out and skate. They rip hard too! Super steezy on board as well! All around cool cats!
One day Jai and I went up to LA to skate with good good old friend Grant Schubert. He has this killer little steep mini ramp. Hard to skate, but super fun!! It was awesome! Mike Vallely and Kristian Svitak came out as well! Grant use to be the Black Label filmer back in the hay day! So that day turned into a little Black Label reunion! Great times
Grant with a fake ollie on the tight tranny!
End of session story time with the crew. So good to hang with these guys! We sounded like a bunch of old men at the doughnut shop swapping exaggerated stories!
We made it to the final destination! hooked up with the crew and the party started…..well, I started to party any ways, I can’t talk for anyone else
Dog and pony show…….Ally and this clown…….
I call this one San Jose swimming. This is how I get down Palm Springs style! All black is the new swim trunks………..or thats what I tell myself!
It was a great trip for sure and it’s always great hanging out in the desert with your friends! Now it’s back north on the freeways and on to the next journey.
