Being born and raised on Kauai, I was always surrounded by the ocean. I am able to spend so much time in the water being a professional surfer, and it’s the life you always hoped you would have, it’s my first love. I feel so free after I have a good surf. It’s the main focus of each of my days to just get in the water.
Another amazing thing about being raised on Kauai are the beautiful mountains that are everywhere. I have always loved to hike and it always gives me a different outlook on things since it’s different from what I’m used to doing in my daily routine. I can clear my mind and just stop and take a breath of fresh air… Literally! Haha
It is a different type of beauty and it really gives me a sense of clarity.
On Tuesday afternoon after training I wanted to go for an adventure. There was no waves and I felt anxious and needed to get outside. I’m a extremely hyper person and I’m always up for exciting things! I texted a group of friends and we drove up to the north shore and went on a 8 mile hike to this waterfall. We hiked in around 2:30 pm ( this hike everyone likes to go really early because it’s long and hot) but we had a YOLO moment so we just charged! It starts pouring rain as we get deeper into the hike and everyone we see is turning around and the three of us are the only ones still going. We got half way to the top and we asked each other if we should keep going. All of us looked at each other and said DUH! Haha.
We got to the waterfall drenched in rain and mud but it was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Being the only ones there and getting to see Mother Nature in all its glory was something I will never forget!! I think it’s very important to get outside everyday and explore if it’s only for ten minutes or five hours. It’s great to find a escape and regroup so you are charged up and ready to hustle! #honesthustle #elevateeveryday
